Beneath the Hand of Doubt — Original Watercolor & Ink, 5.5 × 8.5 in

The Divided Soul: Angels, Demons & the Struggle Within

A long-haired, bearded man sits with his head lowered, hands resting near his knees and large feathered wings drooping at his sides. Directly behind him, a muscular demon with curled horns and expansive batlike wings leans forward, one clawed hand hovering beside the man’s head. Loose drapery gathers around the seated figure’s legs, contrasting with the demon’s upright stance and cloven foot.

Here temptation works through doubt rather than force. The demon’s proximity to the man’s head suggests the intrusive voice that turns remorse into shame and uncertainty into paralysis. The seated man’s silence can be read as the difficult interval between hearing that voice and deciding whether to believe it. The painting leaves that choice open, allowing vulnerability and the possibility of recovery to coexist.
