A feather-winged man kneels low, one palm pressed to the ground and the other turned upward. His bowed head and folded body occupy the foreground while a horned, bat-winged demon towers behind him, its arms extended and claws open. The contrast between the kneeling figure and the demon’s spread wings gives the scene a powerful imbalance of scale and authority.
The scene evokes the moment resolve falters under the weight of temptation. The demon can be read as the promise of power or relief when a man feels least able to resist; the upturned hand remains ambiguous, poised between pleading and acceptance. Yet the hand planted on the ground also suggests a point from which he might rise. Blood-red washes unite both figures as opposing movements within a single emotional life.
